Permanent Part-Time Activities Coordinator – 25 Hours/Week | 9:30am–4:00pm

We’re looking for a warm, energetic Activities Coordinator to join our team at Bupa Cashmere Care Home in Spreydon, Christchurch. In this role, you’ll plan and lead engaging activities that keep our residents active, connected, and smiling. From group games and creative sessions to music, outings, and meaningful one-on-one moments, you’ll help create a vibrant daily life for the people who call our care home their home.
This role is ideal for someone who naturally connects with people, enjoys organising activities, and finds real purpose in helping older adults stay socially engaged and fulfilled.
Hours & Roster Details:
- Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time
- Hours: Average 28 hours per week (total of 168 hours in a 6-week roster cycle)
- Shift Time: Morning Shifts, 9:30am to 4pm
- Roster Pattern: 4 days on, 2 days off (6-weekly roster across Monday - Sunday)
You will lead a team of activities staff and play a key role in identifying each resident’s interests, preferences, and abilities to create a meaningful, engaging activities programme tailored to their needs. Your work will make a significant impact on residents’ quality of life by promoting social interaction, physical activity, and mental stimulation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage activity plans for our 103 residents across rest home, hospital, and specialised dementia (PG) care.
- Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences.
- Ensure our valuable residents are treated with full respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bupa Health & Safety policies.
- Maintain personal and professional development - we have on-site managers who always encourage our staff to up-skill!
Skills and Qualification
To be successful in this role, you will enjoy a variety of work and have prior experience in this field, along with an interest in and understanding of the elderly and their needs.
- You’ll have a NZQA (or equivalent) Diversional Therapy (level 4) Certificate (or working towards a DT qualification)
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferable.
- Be able to demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to motivate others.
- Have a creative flair to contribute towards a full and varied activities programme and help look after our residents while creating a caring atmosphere.
- You are a caring, team player, vibrant, and energetic, with an active interest in organising activities for multiple levels of function and ability.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A clean, full driver’s licence is preferable, as you will drive the van for resident outings.
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.
