Kitchen Manager (Aged Care) | Permanent Part-Time 32 Hours | Day Shifts 8:30am–5:00pm | Fortnightly Weekends
If you’re a Hands-on Kitchen Manager or experienced cook who enjoys being on the tools, this is your chance to lead a well-run kitchen without late nights. Based at our Bupa Longwood Care Home in Riverton, this permanent part-time role offers 32 hours per week across four 8-hour shifts, with a predictable roster including one weekend per fortnight.
This role is about creating meals that matter. You’ll lead from the front, planning menus, cooking, and delivering nutritious, consistent meals for our 52-bed care home and 28-unit retirement village, including special events that bring residents and families together.
You’ll confidently run daily kitchen operations while staying hands-on, bringing strong bulk cooking experience, knowledge of dietary needs, and the ability to balance nutrition, variety, and cost. You’ll also manage ordering, stock, budgets, and lead a team of 2 Kitchen Assistants with a practical, supportive style, while maintaining high standards in food safety, health and safety, and continuous improvement.
Hours & Roster Details:
- Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time
- Hours: Average 32 Hours Per Week
- Shift Time: Morning, 8:30am – 5pm
- Roster Pattern: 4 shifts per week (8 hours per shift), worked across a 2-week rotating roster. Each fortnight includes one Saturday and one Sunday as part of the 4 weekly shifts.
What About You
- A relevant NZQA culinary qualification (Level 3 & 4) or similar qualification is preferred and a minimum of 1-3 years of culinary experience is essential.
- Well versed planning and implementing nutritional menu programmes.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and inspire the kitchen team.
- Be prepared to roll up your sleeve and get stuck into whatever needs to get done.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, care, and passion for making a difference in our residents’ lives.
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.
