Be at the Heart of Aged Care: Activities Coordinator

Are you an experienced Senior Caregiver with a passion for dementia and psychogeriatric care? Have you not only cared but also led by example, supported your peers, and helped shape the rhythm of your care team?

This is more than just a new job, it’s a step into a career in Diversional Therapy, with the opportunity to work towards a formal Diversional Therapist qualification through Bupa. If you’re ready to grow, we’re ready to support you.

At Bupa Fergusson Care Home, we’re looking for someone like you to step confidently into the role of Activities Coordinator where you can combine your compassion with your creativity.

About the Role

This role is a permanent fulltime role.

Hours of Work:

You’ll work an average of 32 hours per week on a 6-week rotating roster. You will work 9:30am - 5:00pm.

This role follows a 6-week rotating roster with a pattern of 4 days on, 2 days off.

Across the 6-week cycle, you’ll be rostered to work:

  • Three full weekends (Saturday and Sunday)

  • Two weekends with either Saturday or Sunday off

  • One full weekend completely off

Flexibility and availability across these hours are essential to ensure seamless service delivery.

You will identify the leisure activities of each resident based on their interests’ preferences and abilities and coordinate an activities programme based on their needs. You will have a big impact on the quality of life for our residents by promoting social interaction, physical activity, and mental stimulation for our residents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of activities assistants, ensuring activities are well-coordinated, engaging, and aligned with residents’ needs.
  • Manage activity plans for residents across this 112-bed care home, with rest home, dementia and hospital levels of care.
  • Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences.
  • Ensure our valuable residents are treated with full respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Maintain personal and professional development - we have on-site managers who always encourage our staff to up-skill!

Skills and Qualification

To be successful in this role, you will enjoy a variety of work and have prior experience in this field, along with an interest in and understanding of the elderly and their needs.

  • Ideally you will have an NZQA (or equivalent) Diversional Therapy (level 4) Certificate or Level 4 Health & Wellbeing qualification (or working towards a DT qualification).
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferable.
  • Have a creative flair to contribute towards a full and varied activities programme and help look after our residents while creating a caring atmosphere.
  • You are a caring, team player, vibrant, and energetic, with an active interest in organising activities for multiple levels of function and ability.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You will be required to drive the van for outings so a clean, full driver’s license is essential.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.

Reasons to Belong

  • Fully subsidised Southern Cross health insurance to our eligible permanent NZ employees and a discount on insurance cover for eligible family members.
  • Wellbeing discounts and advice, EAP counselling services, study support, and cultural leave.
