Are you an experienced and confident payroll professional ready to take oversight and delivery of accurate, timely and customer-focused payroll services?  We are looking for a Senior Payroll Officer who can take ownership of ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, with payroll outcomes compliant with company policies, employment agreements and applicable New Zealand legislation.

You’ll be trusted to work independently, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to the integrity and performance of our payroll function. You’ll also drive payroll accuracy, data integrity, service excellence, operational resilience and continuous improvement across payroll operations.

Where you will make an impact

  • Independently managing the end-to-end payroll cycle across multiple pay groups, ensuring each pay run is completed by the required deadline, accurately balanced and reconciled to the general ledger
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee information, leave balances, and payroll amendments.
  • Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with NZ legislation and internal policies
  • Assess, calculate and process one-off payments, corrections and complex payroll adjustments, ensuring appropriate authorisation, supporting documentation and audit trails are maintained
  • Acting as a senior point of escalation for employees, managers, provide prompt and customer focused professional support.  Lead the investigation and resolution of complex payroll transactions, discrepancies and employee matters
  • Coordinating and completing assigned end-of-pay-period, month-end and year-end activities, including reconciliations, reporting and resolution of outstanding items}
  • Administer Paytools and ServiceNow effectively to manage payroll workflows, maintain accurate records, monitor service commitments and support timely issue resolution

About You

  • Demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end New Zealand payroll processing, preferably within a complex, high-volume environment
  • Proven ability to independently investigate and resolve complex payroll matters, apply sound judgement and escalate material risks appropriately
  • Strong working knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation, employment-related obligations, employment agreements, statutory reporting and payroll control requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll and people systems, including iChris, UKG Dimensions WorkforcePro and Workday, together with ServiceNow and Paytools
  • Highly developed customer service, stakeholder management, analytical, problem-solving and numeracy skills, with the confidence to provide authoritative payroll advice
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage risk and consistently meet critical payroll deadlines
  • Advanced working capability in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation and analysis used to support payroll reconciliation and assurance.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Copilot, and the ability to use digital tools to improve payroll efficiency and documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to coach colleagues, share technical knowledge and support quality assurance, cross-training and continuous capability uplift within a payroll team
