Posted 11/09/2025 Job Number 54183 Work type Permanent - Full Time Posting End Date 12/10/2025

Step into a pioneering role as a Virtual Registered Nurse, providing after-hours clinical expertise and guidance in a Hybrid role.

Using tools like Microsoft Teams, VCare, and 1Chart, you’ll coach, guide, and support staff at Bupa Care Homes across NZ, while ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality care 24/7. This is more than after-hours cover, it’s leadership, mentorship, and the chance to shape the future of aged care nursing.

Hours & Roster Details:

You’ll work a steady 36 hours per week, with 12-hour shifts (7pm–7am nights and the occasional 7am–7pm weekend days) on a predictable 3-week roster.

Your 3-week rotation may look like this:

  • Week 1: Nights on Mon, Sat & Sun
  • Week 2: Nights on Wed, Thu & Fri
  • Week 3: One Tues night, plus Sat & Sun days

While this role is primarily remote, as the Virtual RN vision evolves and new opportunities for growth are identified, the role may expand to include a blend of remote and in-person clinical activities, which could involve travel to a local Bupa Care Home.

Where You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide remote (virtual) clinical cover & on-call coverage, alongside coaching, support, and clinical expertise during after-hours periods to care home staff.
  • Ensure 24/7 continuity of care, clinical leadership, and proactive risk management, particularly when on-site RN coverage is limited.
  • Support excellence in clinical assessment, care planning, evaluation, and clinical governance.
  • Provide regular check-ins during rostered remote shifts to care homes without a Registered Nurse on site.
  • Collaborate with on-site Senior Caregiver and Registered Nurses using Microsoft Teams and VCare to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.
  • Utilise national access to 1Chart and VCare for comprehensive clinical oversight, supported decision making and accurate documentation.
  • Contribute to clinical and quality assurance initiatives aligned with Clinical Service Improvement objectives.
  • Ensure all incidents and complaints are appropriately recorded and managed.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and documentation consistent with NZNC competencies and Bupa Work Instructions.

Your Person-First Approach

You’ll help us make a real difference through your RN experience, personal passion, and empathy.

  • Hold a current APC and NZ Nursing Council Registration.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a registered nurse in Aged Care.
  • Prior experience in virtual consultations preferred.
  • Excellent clinical skills in adult care and ideal aged care experience.
  • A compassionate nurse who strives for excellence and to make an impact in residents’ lives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and high-level interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed time management skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Role model a person-centred approach to care.
